Our Values
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We are cognizant of the many structural and institutional biases that make it challenging to recognize highly talented individuals from diverse backgrounds. We firmly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue chemistry, regardless of their race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, nationality, or disability. Everyone is entitled to fair treatment in their pursuit of this opportunity, and all individuals should feel welcomed, safe, supported, and respected within the scientific community. Beyond the moral imperative of advancing scientists from underprivileged backgrounds to reflect the myriad communities in our society, diversity of thought intrinsic to an inclusive environment inevitably leads to divergent ideas, which facilitates research development and provides new avenues for exploration. To truly maximize the impact and reach of academic institutions and the scientific community, diversity and inclusion are needed to develop and implement a greater dissemination of scientific technologies and knowledge by minoritized groups. We believe a core function of the scientific community is to cultivate environments that maximize diversity, equity, and inclusion. Upholding this ethical imperative strengthens all our communities, enriches our society, and advances technologies essential to our ways of life.

Group Culture
We believe that fostering a positive and inclusive group culture is essential for a thriving team. The culture within a group significantly influences its dynamics, success, and overall well-being. All members are expected to contribute to a welcoming environment that promotes a sense of belonging. This can be achieved through open communication, respectful interactions, and actively listening to diverse viewpoints. Our goal is to support, uplift, and celebrate each member’s achievements. We strive to create an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable engaging, collaborating, and discussing science. We also embrace the idea that making mistakes is a natural part of growth and should be seen as an opportunity to learn. Team-building activities help enhance our group dynamic, ensuring that we support one another both in and out of the lab. Our group has a zero-tolerance policy for toxic behaviors, including racism, sexism, xenophobia, or any form of discrimination.
